چکیده
A 27 year-old man was admitted for bilateral legs weakness and rhabdomyolysis after a prolonged sitting posture for 10 hours due to an overuse of drugs for schizophrenia. Neurological examination showed feet drop, absent ankle tendon reflexes and hypesthesia to pin-prick stimulation below knees. The straight-leg-raising test was normal. A lumbar spine MRI study did not show abnormal spinal lesion but found diffuse hyperintense change of lower back muscles with predominance on the left side. Serum creatine phosphokinase (CPK) level was 31478 IU/L (normal 39-308 IU/L). The nerve conduction velocity study showed absent responses of bilateral peroneal, tibial and sural nerves and electromyographic study showed active denervation at sampling muscles below the Hamstrings, while sparing the tensor fascia lata. A follow-up pelvic MRI study disclosed necrosis of bilateral gluteal muscles with marginal contrast enhancement (Figure). Bilateral gluteal compartment syndrome (GCS) with

Bilateral gluteal compartment syndrome complicated by rhabdomyolysis and acute kidney injury in a patient with alcohol intoxication.
Bilateral gluteal compartment syndrome is a rare clinical entity that can be complicated by rhabdomyolysis or acute kidney injury (AKI). We report the a case of a 30-year-old woman without any comorbid diseases who was diagnosed with bilateral gluteal compartment syndrome complicated by rhabdomyolysis and dialysis-requiring AKI, which was caused by prolonged immobilization under the influence o...
متن کاملA unique case of bilateral sciatic nerve variation within the gluteal compartment and associated clinical ramifications.
An abnormal course of a nerve either through or around a muscle may yield multiple or anomalous muscle innervation. Further, if nerves are inappropriately trapped within the confines of a muscle or irregular boundaries, variant emergence of a nerve could give rise to symptoms of an entrapment neuropathy. Upon routine dissection in the Department of Anatomy at the American University of Antigua ...
متن کاملAtraumatic gluteal compartment syndrome.
A case of atraumatic gluteal compartment syndrome complicated by sciatic nerve palsy and acute rhabdomyolysis is presented. A presumed diagnosis of deep venous thrombosis led to a delay in diagnosis. Gluteal compartment syndrome should be considered in the differential diagnosis of the swollen leg.
متن کاملReport of a Novel Bilateral Variation of Sciatic and Inferior Gluteal Nerve
Sciatic nerve is the thickest nerve of the sacral plexus, which innervates many muscles and vast areas of the skin of the lower limb. It leaves the pelvis via the greater sciatic foramen, emerges into the gluteal region by passing under the piriformis muscle, and descends beneath the gluteus maximus to divide into its terminal branches: tibial and common peroneal nerve at the superior angle of ...
متن کاملGluteal compartment syndrome following bone marrow biopsy: a case report.
Compartment syndrome is a well described limb-threatening and potentially life-threatening condition. Compartment syndromes of the upper and lower limbs are well documented in the literature. The gluteal region, however, is often not considered as a compartment despite having three osseofascial boundaries. We report a case of gluteal compartment syndrome which resulted from a bone marrow biopsy...
